The origin of the Athenaeum

The Ateneu de Fabricació digital de les Corts is located in the old Benet Campabadal factory, a building built in 1924 and which was a pioneer in the production of silk ribbons in Barcelona. After several phases of occupation, in 1990 the Center del Vidre Foundation turned the building into a meeting point for glass trades, industry and art.

In 2013, with the initiative of Barcelona City Council, the Digital Manufacturing Academy was created in the Corts district with the aim of generating a space for technological debate and creation open to everyone. Today, this space is a place to express talent and creativity, being the first public Fab Lab in the world.

Les Corts Digital Manufacturing Academy is located in a space of more than a thousand square meters and offers citizens a wide range of tools to turn their ideas into physical products useful for society. Among the tools available, 3D printers, machining centers, 3D scanners and laser cutters stand out.
