Cases Pascual i Pons: An architectural jewel on Paseo de Gràcia in Barcelona
Situation of Cases Pascual i Pons
Located at the beginning of Paseo de Gràcia, the Cases Pascual i Pons are a magnificent bourgeois complex that, like many others, was built on the most luxurious street in the city. This area, which is currently the most visited tourist destination in Barcelona, was once the place where the Catalan bourgeoisie built their most luxurious residences.
Lush houses
The interior of the building attests to the wealth of its owners: leaded windows, imposing fireplaces, sculpted staircases and numerous ornamental elements dressed a residence that had to show the social status of its tenants. As was customary, only the main floor was occupied by the owners: the more modest upper floors were used for rent.
Bourgeois Strongholds
The façade, which occupies two entire sides of the block (one on Passeig de Gràcia and the other on Ronda de Sant Pere), is made of stone and has numerous neo-Gothic elements, such as the paired windows or the use of ornamental pointed arch. At the two corners of the building, two towers, one circular and the other polygonal, finish off an imposing complex. The entire building was restored in 1984 and, since then, it has housed the central offices of the Catalana Occidente company.
