A historical treasure in Nou Barris
The Sanctuary of Santa Eulàlia de Vilapicina is located in the oldest center of Nou Barris, along with other historical buildings such as the Can Basté farmhouse, the old Ca N'Artés hostel and two semi-detached houses. This historical complex has been classified as a cultural asset of local interest.
Neoclassical architecture
The sanctuary was built in the 18th century and continues to depend on the parish of Santa Eulàlia de Vilapicina of the archbishopric of Barcelona. The building is characterized by its neoclassical, sober and simple style. It consists of a single nave, with a transverse arch roof that preserves remains of the previous Romanesque temple. The façade features a bell tower formed by a small body with arches and topped by green glazed ceramic rosettes.
An ancient history
The sanctuary has a long history dating back more than 1,000 years. Documents dated 991 and 999 refer to the existence of a church in this place. The current temple has around 300 years of history and was rebuilt in 1782, acquiring the neoclassical appearance that it preserves today.
Discovering the hidden history
In 1997, the collapse of the roof of the Santísimo chapel made it possible to study the architectural elements of the old pre-Romanesque construction. In a restoration carried out in 2004, the primitive parts of the building were exposed, covering the parts belonging to the 18th century.
