Provideniya is one of the easternmost towns in Russia. Provideniya (Russian: Провиде́ния, Chukchi: Гуврэл Guvrel) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) and the administrative center of Providensky District of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia, located on Komsomolskaya Bay (a part of Provideniya Bay) in the northeastern part of the autonomous okrug, across the Bering Strait from Alaska, and very close to the International Date Line. The population has declined in recent decades from 5,432 (1989 Census) to 1,970 (2010 Census).
