Tartareu is a town of 101 inhabitants (2019) belonging to the municipality of les Avellanes and Santa Linya (county of La Noguera) located at 592 meters above sea level. It is an old independent municipality that was annexed to Les Avellanes in 1857. The town center is dominated by the remains of Tartareu Castle, taken from the Muslims by Count Ermengol IV d'Urgell around 1077.
