Vung Tau (Vũng Tàu) is a city in Southern Vietnam, about 125 km from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Its nearness to Saigon and its beauty and fresh air makes it a very popular destination for weekends.
Vũng Tàu is the largest city of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu province in southern Vietnam. The city area is 140 square kilometers (54 square miles), consisting of 13 urban wards and one commune of Long Sơn Islet. Vũng Tàu was the capital of the province until it was replaced by the much smaller Bà Rịa city on 2 May 2012. The city is also the crude oil extraction center of Vietnam.
