Weipa

Welcome to Weipa!

Far North Queensland is a coastal region in the north-east of the Australian state of Queensland.

Far North Queensland is huge. It may look small on a map, but in reality, it's about 1,200 km (750 mi) from one end to another, excluding the Torres Strait Islands, and is an extra 170 km (110 mi) including the Torres Strait Islands, meaning it's almost 1,400 km (870 mi) from end to end.

Weipa is a coastal mining town in the local government area of Weipa Town in Queensland. It is the largest town on the Cape York Peninsula. It exists because of the enormous bauxite deposits along the coast. The Port of Weipa is mainly involved in exports of bauxite. There are also shipments of live cattle from the port.In the 2016 census, Weipa had a population of 3,899 people.
