Welcome to Zug!
Zug is a town in the Zurich region of Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zug. This article also covers the neighbouring town of Cham. Zug (German: ZugFrench: Zoug, Italian: Zugo, Romansh: Zug, New Latin: Tugium) is the largest town and capital of the Swiss canton of Zug in Switzerland. Its name originates from the fishing vocabulary, in the Middle Ages it referred to the right to pull up fishing nets and hence to the right to fish.
The municipality had a total population of 30,934 in 31 December 2020. The official language of Zug is the Swiss variety of Standard German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.
